Designing Advanced Interactive Physics Exercises

Scriptable general-purpose applets, such as Physlets, provide a solution to the problem of how to author a wide variety of curricular material without having to program many different applets. Over the past year additional Physlets have been written to provide better coverage of advanced topics. In addition, existing Physlets have been extended through the use of inter-applet communication and data filters. A data filter is a standalone applet that takes input from a data source, applies a mathematical transformation, and pass the resultant to a display applet. This makes it possible to use a modular object-oriented approach for the design of advanced interactive curricular material such as quantum mechanics and statistical mechanics. Examples that makes use of these techniques will be presented.
